Board Meeting - April 9, 2001
Meeting Summary - Employee Suggestion Board|
April 9, 2001
10:30 am - 11:30 am
DER, 345 West Washington Avenue, Madison, WI
Board Members: James Behrend, Chairman; Roger Cross, Member; Ken Berg, Member
DER Staff: Robert Toomey, Statewide Program Coordinator
The Board reviewed and decided on the following employee suggestions:
||Name & Agency
||Suggestion Description & Benefits
||Gary Dikkers, DOT/DMV
||Ameritech charges $0.95 per call when a DOT employee uses directory assistance to find telephone numbers. State employees should be encouraged to use one of the free Internet services instead, such as www.switchboard.com or www.anywho.com.
This suggestion could apply to other agencies/institutions/campuses.
|Certificate and $100.00 cash award|
||Nancy Liegel, Marjorie Uphoff, and Melody Marshall, DOT/DMV
||When an insurance filing cancels, an "Order of Withdrawal Due to Cancellation of Insurance" is mailed to the customer, advising them that the customers' operating privilege will be withdrawn on a specific date unless they file a new SR22. This letter is frequently confusing to the customer and should not be sent in most situations.
Process Improvement; Customer Satisfaction; Cost Reductions.
||Carolyn Hackler, DOT/DMV
||Place carpet runners on the first-floor hallways of the Hill Farms State Transportation Building to prevent slips and falls.
Health/Safety; Customer Satisfaction; Cost Reductions.
||Mark Gengler, UW-Oshkosh
||Lower wall-mounted pay telephones to make accessible for all users.
It was noted that both Chair Jim Behrend's and Member Roger Cross' appointments were up in May 2001. Both Mr. Behrend and Mr. Cross expressed an interest in continuing to serve on the Board, and have been in communication with the Governor's appointments office in regard to reappointment through May 2005. (Member Ken Berg is still current through May 2003.)
The Board considered an appeal of its previous decision in two suggestions. The Board discussed the appeal and the original two suggestions, and reaffirmed its original decision to grant certificates of commendation. Cash awards were not given because neither suggestion resulted in sufficient tangible cost savings, and neither suggestion rose to the level of an extraordinary intangible suggestion which could merit a special cash award.
The Board will likely hold its next meeting in July; exact date to be determined and announced.
